Small Family Garden
The brief for this design was to make the most of a small garden, providing different areas for entertainment and relaxing whilst making it family friendly and making use of the different levels.
This was quite a small garden and the main need here was to create the idea of as much space as possible given that the garden was intended for a family used to entertaining. A good idea to make this happen is to design along a diagonal. This gives the appearance of extended length. The sectioning of the various levels also makes the garden appear larger than it is forcing movement around the garden down through the divisions. The entertaining areas are positioned in three main areas allowing family and guests to make use of the whole space. Planting is lawn and herbaceous borders together with seemingly random sections of Carpinus betulus hedging along the boundaries to help create windbreaks and to provide a contrast to the existing walling and fencing.
